The
Peace hotel is located right in the colonial
heart of Shanghai and has a glittering history to
match its accommodation! For more information on
the hotel's history and the surrounding area.
For
decades, the Bund has been the economic and finance
center of Shanghai. A number of tall buildings
stand alongside the Huangpu River like a multinational
architectural show. Among them, the Peace Hotel,
with its green pyramid-like characteristic, enjoys
a glamorous attraction of the passers-by.
Facing
the developing Pudong new area, soaring Orient
Pearl TV Tower over the Huangpu River, and situated
next to the Nanjing Road Shopping Area, the Peace
Hotel is an ideal place for work, rest, leisure,
entertainment and shopping for businessmen and
women.
The
hotel has 380 beautifully furnished rooms, all
carefully preserved in their original 1930s style.
In its heyday in the 30's the hotel was a base
for many famous artists including Song Qingling,
Charlie Chaplin, George Bernard Shaw and Noel
Coward.

There
are numerous restaurants, bars, banquet halls
and business facilities in the hotel, all serving
the high class cuisine one would expect from a
hotel of this standard. The Hotel's Jazz Bar was
once a hangout for Shanghai sophisticates. The
band still play fantastic tunes today, although
the bar itself has become more of a tourist joint
than a trendy hang out and the "Cover Charge"
to get into the place to enjoy this experience
is a bit of a rip off!
Others
facilities include a fully equipped gymnasium,
beauty and massage parlor and foreign languages
book store.
The
Peace Hotel really is the only hotel of this
kind in Shanghai. It offers a fascinating insight
into Shanghai's history and is a charming and
beautiful relic of times and lives, gone by.
